Personal Year
Your personal year is your current position in a nine-year cycle. It is calculated from your birth day and month plus the current year, and it shows what this period is good for and what makes it hard.
How it's calculated
Add your birth day, your birth month and the current year, then reduce the sum to a single digit.
For September 23 and the year 2026: 23 → 2+3 = 5, September → 9, 2026 → 2+0+2+6 = 10 → 1. Then 5 + 9 + 1 = 15 → 6. This is Personal Year 6.
An important detail: the personal year changes not on January 1 but on your birthday. Until your birthday you are still in the previous year of the cycle — this is the most common mistake in do-it-yourself calculations.
The nine years of the cycle
How to use it
The point of the cycle is not to go against its phase. In the first year you begin, in the ninth you finish; the tradition considers launching something big in a ninth year a bad idea, and dragging old business into a first year a missed opportunity.
This isn't a prohibition but a hint about where to put your effort. If circumstances demand that you start something in a ninth year, no numerology will stand in your way — just be prepared to tie up loose ends at the same time.
Frequently asked questions
Does the personal year start on your birthday or in January?
On your birthday. The change happens on your date.
What are the personal month and personal day?
The same cycles on a smaller scale: the personal year plus the number of the month, then plus the day of the month. They are used for planning weeks and days.
Can a personal year be a master number?
In most schools, no: the personal year is always reduced to 1–9.
