Lunar Day 1
The first lunar day begins at the new moon and usually lasts only a few hours, from the new moon to moonrise. The day's symbol is a lamp: the light is still faint, but it is already there.
What to do
A day for intentions, not actions. Tradition advises spending it quietly: set out your plans for the month, write down your intentions, spend some time alone. It's a good time to think about what you want by the next new moon.
What to Avoid
Starting major undertakings and signing contracts on the first lunar day is not advised: there is still little energy. Anger and quarreling are also discouraged, since the mood of this day is believed to set the tone for the whole cycle.
Work and relationships
For work, this is a day for drafts: make a to-do list for the month and sort through your mail, but don't launch anything. In relationships, it is a time to talk quietly about what each of you expects from the coming weeks. Tradition advises leaving new acquaintances and having things out for other days.
Home, shopping and haircuts
Big purchases are best postponed: on the first lunar day you only choose and compare prices. Tradition advises against haircuts at the new moon altogether — this is one of its few strict rules. In the garden it is a day of rest: no work is done and the soil is left undisturbed.
